What does it mean to be a Christian?

The message of the Gospel is a simple and beautiful message of hope and love. It's free, and it's for absolutely everybody! The message is best summed up in that famous verse from the bible - John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Simply put, Jesus is the son of God, and he died for you.Why would Jesus have to die for me?

God had a plan when he created us.

Unfortunately, when Adam sinned, this plan was disrupted. God has always desired for us to regain that close relationship with him that he intended for us, but sin keeps us apart from God, as he cannot abide sin. But God created us with free will, so we have the freedom to choose whether or not we wish to follow him.God sent his son Jesus to earth to make a way for us to regain that close relationship with him, because he loves us so much. (See John 3:16 above).

Jesus was blameless, and without any sin, so in his death on the cross, he became a living sacrifice for us. As a result of this incredible act, God will forgive our sins simply by us asking him to - Jesus has already paid the price of sin. This is an amazing truth! Jesus died for you!

So how do I become a Christian?

If you want to become a Christian, and be assured of being in heaven, you simply need to accept Jesus Christ as saviour, and Lord of your life, and confess your sins. Pray a prayer like this one below:

"Father, I recognise that I am a sinner, and I want to ask you to forgive my sins. Thankyou for sending your son Jesus to die for me, it was an awesome gift! I want to make you Lord of my life. Thankyou for your love for me. Amen"

That is all there is to it! God WANTS us to come back to Him, and will accept us if we seek Him honestly, as He knows our hearts, and our motives. If you do find yourself praying this prayer, then I encourage you to go to a local church, to seek training from experienced Christians, and most of all, read the Bible to learn about God's plan for you. A good place to start would be the book of Mark.
